With a background in nursing and health promotion, Christine FitzGerald’s research interests center on the influential role that community plays on the impact and prevention of dementia. At GBHI, FitzGerald extends her previous work in health service delivery by exploring approaches to support both person-centered and community-based care for people with dementia and their families and caregivers.
With a particular focus on psychosocial interventions for people with dementia, FitzGerald will explore the role community services—such as Alzheimer cafés—play in supporting social citizenship. FitzGerald will develop a psychosocial intervention classification framework and an evaluation strategy to mobilize and enhance psychosocial interventions at a national and international level.
