Maritza Pintado Caipa MD

Atlantic Fellow at GBHI
UCsf Memory and aging center
Home Country: Peru
Field of Employment: Neurologist

Maritza Pintado Caipa has been working as a general neurologist in Tacna, Peru.

In her role she noted that many diseases like dementia are ignored by society and the authorities and that there is a lack of epidemiological data on dementia in Peru, with only a few people working in the area of dementia. Maritza believes that dementia isn't a priority disease in Peru, possibly due to lack of diagnosis.

To reduce the scale and impact of dementia around the world, we need to know the reality of dementia in each country in the world. This will allow us to know how it presents in different populations and to use this information to implement specific programs to prevent, diagnose and treat dementia, involving both society and its government. As an Atlantic Fellow for Equity in Brain Health at GBHI I will enrich both my professional and personal skills. I wish to learn about best practices for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of dementia. I want to establish an international and multi-disciplinary network of colleagues around the world. In my free time, I’m usually traveling, dancing and cooking Peruvian food or just enjoying my family.
