Vision
Dementia is a complex condition resulting from multiple influences (genetic, biological, environmental, nutritional, toxic, social, economic) that vary according to the origin of the person. We need to adapt dementia prevention and care strategies to each country and society.
Strategy
Laurent is studying population surveys of aging about persons living in more than 30 countries from 4 continents (America, Africa, Europe, Asia) to identify the most important risk factors for dementia according to the country.
Impact
As an Atlantic Fellow, Laurent has realized that scientific publications about dementia were too often based on data from high income countries with a lack of worldwide perspective. His fellowship has allowed him to gain a better understanding about the multiple dimensions of dementia.
Motivation
Dementia care is well developped in France but dementia prevention has been neglected: my clinical and research work aims at educating people about dementia prevention, targetting the most important risk factors.
Education & Experience
Laurent Cleret de Langavant received his medical school training from the Rennes 1 University and from the Paris Est University in France where he qualified as a neurologist. Laurent achieved a Neuroscience Doctorate (PhD) in Social Cognition at Paris Est University. He received a training in neuroimaging at MIRCen lab, Orsay, France. He trained as an Atlantic Fellow for Equity in Brain Health based at GBHI (UCSF) in 2016-2017. He is an Assistant Professor in Neurology at Paris Est University and works as a behavioral neurologist in Henri Mondor public faculty hospital (Assistance Publique Hôpitaux de Paris, France).
