Suzanne Kawahara brings to GBHI broad experience working both in private and non-profit sectors identifying opportunities for success and growth, collaborating effectively with stakeholders, and managing teams to produce results and desired outcomes. With extensive experience in leadership development, together with Christine Ritchie, she has developed the leadership module for the Fellows. As deputy director of TidesWell at UCSF, a program affiliated with the UCSF Division of Geriatrics, Kawahara supports efforts to improve the quality of healthcare for older Americans in the community.

TidesWell aims to transform and personalize health care through education and training of health care providers in the field of aging, first responders, and other non-health care professionals who interact with older adults to understand and respond to their unique health-related needs. Kawahara manages TidesWell’s operational and financial aspects, and develops partnerships with other organizations that support their mission.

Bio: Suzanne Kawahara holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Stanford University and an MBA degree in finance from the Yale University School of Management. She worked in commercial and investment banking for many years before joining UC San Francisco in 2010. In December 2015, she was named a faculty and staff Dean’s Diversity Leader for the UCSF School of Medicine’s Differences Matter initiative.
