Vision

To make progress in brain health, we must foster collaboration between patients, families, healthcare professionals and the wider community in the identification of brain health needs, improving awareness, deployment of preventive and treatment strategies, enabling research, and engagement with political and economic decision-makers.

Strategy

David's main focus is on clinical service provision and development, undergraduate and postgraduate neurology teaching and training, engagement in the National Clinical Programme for Neurology and the development of a national Parkinson’s Disease clinical pathway.

Motivation

David is involved in the provision of clinical services, teaching activities and the facilitation of research relevant to GBHI priorities.

Education & Experience

David obtained his primary medical degree at University College Dublin in 2003, went on to complete his neurology specialist training with the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland in 2013, was awarded his PhD in Neural Engineering from Trinity College Dublin in 2012 and has achieved a number of additional qualifications and awards. His is a clinical neurologist based at St James’s Hospital (SJH) Dublin with a focus on movement disorders and Parkinson’s Disease in particular. He has additional roles at SJH including clinical lead for Neurology services and Chief Clinical Information Officer. He also has roles as national specialty director for neurology specialist training in Ireland (RCPI) and clinical associate professor in neurology at Trinity College Dublin, where he is also clinical teaching lead for neurology. His research interests include neurodegeneration, movement disorders, clinical informatics and service development and improvement.
