Jorge is a neuropsychiatrist specializing in dementia, practicing at Hospital Clínica Bíblica. He serves as a postgraduate psychiatry professor at the University of Costa Rica and conduct research focused on dementia prevention.

Vision
To advance brain health, we must tackle social disparities through aggressive risk management and early diagnosis. True health equity demands scaling community-based prevention programs to reach underserved populations and ensure universal care
Strategy
Jorge is the principal investigator for Costa Rica at LatAm Fingers, a clinical trial based on risk factor management for participants at risk of dementia. He also runs workshops for caregivers based on Montessori Model for dementia.
Impact
As an Atlantic Fellow, Jorge aims to build Latin American alliances to foster local research, generating the scientific evidence necessary to drive impactful changes in dementia prevention and management.
Motivation
In the absence of disease-modifying dementia treatments in Costa Rica, it is a priority to enact prevention strategies that are tailored to local needs and accessible to all populations
Education & Experience
Jorge earned his medical degree from UCIMED and completed his psychiatry residency at the University of Costa Rica. Following three years of practice, he completed fellowships in neuropsychiatry and dementia at UNAM, Mexico. He is currently a clinical researcher and professor of medicine and psychiatry
