Current Work

Abel Rubega is a lecturer in the Faculty of medicine, department of psychiatry, Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Uganda. His main work is in academia, Clinical work and Research.

Vision

Abel believes we need to collaborate at multidciplinary and multisectoral levels to reduce the impact of dementia, this can be in research to identify gaps and inequities,and design interventions,sharing research findings which will bring about change in policies.

Strategy

Abel is currently participating in the clinical care of patients with dementia at Mbarara University Teaching hospital, where he does screening diagnosis and treatment.
He also teaches neurocognitive disorders at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Impact

As an Atlantic Fellow Abel aims to gain expertise in dementia diagnosis, be able to develop competence in dementia research and mentor dementia future researchers and be able to design of interventions that will help people with dementia in Uganda.

Motivation

Through collaboration with local scientists, Atlantic Fellows, and his mentors, Abel aims to bring together diverse research disciplines to address the emerging yet often overlooked problem of dementia in Uganda.

Education & Experience

Abel completed his medical school at Kampala International University, Uganda. Abel received his master's of medicine degree in psychiatry at Mbarara University of Science and Technology. After completing his master's degree, he joined the psychiatry department at Mbarara University of Science and Technology as a lecturer.
