Vision

Chiara aims to advance knowledge and increase awareness of young-onset dementia to enable earlier diagnosis, improve access to services, and promote person-centered care that supports individuals and families throughout their journey.

Strategy

Chiara integrates clinical assessment, neuropsychology, and neuroimaging to advance our understanding of neurodegenerative diseases. She translates research into greater awareness through clinical practice and community engagement.

Impact

As an Atlantic Fellow, Chiara aims to build the skills and leadership to improve recognition and care of people with dementia in Italy, by bridging research, clinical excellence, and community engagement to better support individuals and families.

Motivation

In Italy, young-onset dementia remains under-recognized, leading to delayed diagnosis and inequitable access to services designed primarily for older adults despite the distinct clinical, social, and family needs of affected individuals and families.

Education & Experience

Chiara Gallingani completed her medical degree and neurology residency at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy. During her residency, she was a visiting scholar at the University of California, San Francisco, where she worked on neuroimaging and AI-based approaches in Frontotemporal Dementia and Primary Progressive Aphasia. She is currently a neurologist at the University Hospital of Modena and a PhD student in Neuroscience.
