Consultant neurologist and Director of the Dublin Mid Leinster Epilepsy service. Ellen Mayston Bates Professor of Epileptology in the academic unit of neurology at Trinity college and PI at the SFI funded FutureNeuro Centre.
Colin has been a clinical neurologist working in the Irish health system for 25 years in the areas of epilepsy and behavior.
Colin's personal goal in his collaboration with GBHI is to reach out to vulnerable populations such as those who are homeless, consumed by addiction and the cognitively impaired to improve access to services and treatment using best scientific and social innovations.
Educated at University College Dublin, Colin began his neurology training in Dublin and moved to Harvard Medical School in Boston to complete his residency and fellowship Training at the Brigham and Women’s and Mass General Hospitals. Colin set up Ireland’s young onset dementia clinic in St James’s hospital and it remains the only clinic of its type in the country led by neurology. He handed the clinic over to his colleague Dr Siobhan Hutchinson in 2011 to take on a project to reorganize epilepsy care nationally which in the 21st century has seen a massive increase in diagnoses in the older patient.
