Current Work
Thomas is a Geriatric Psychiatrist and a clinician scientist with an interest in neurocognitive disorders, late-life mood disorders, etc. and who is keen to understand brain health through a life course perspective and an integrated sociocultural approach.

Vision
The solutions should come from all stakeholders, especially people living with dementia and their caregivers. Newer community-level prevention strategies, grounded in acceptable, available, and accessible sociocultural contexts, should also be planned.
Strategy
Thomas uses longitudinal aging cohort datasets from India to identify risk and resilience factors for dementia and to develop scalable targets for selective, sustainable interventions in India and other Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMIC) countries.
Impact
As an Atlantic fellow, Thomas wants to develop sustainable strategies for prevention, early detection and delaying progression of dementia in India, which has the largest population in the world.

Education & Experience
Thomas completed his basic medical school training (MBBS) at MG University's prestigious MOSC Medical College. Kerala, India. This was followed by his PhD in Clinical Neurosciences on " Vascular Dementia", MD and National Board accreditation in Psychiatry and DM in Geriatric Psychiatry from the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore. He is currently an Associate Professor at the Centre for Brain Research (CBR) at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, India.
