Vision
Peny believes that we can advance brain health by integrating arts, culture, and community care, fostering empathy, connection, and creativity to support cognitive well-being and reduce the impact of dementia across diverse and underserved populations.
Strategy
Peny designs arts based programs that use music, movement, and storytelling to engage older adults, enhance memory recall, and foster emotional connection, supporting cognitive well-being and reducing isolation among those affected by or at risk of dementia.
Impact
As an Atlantic Fellow, Peny aims to develop inclusive, culturally rooted arts-in-health frameworks that empower communities in Southeast Asia to support brain health, reduce stigma, and improve care for people living with dementia and social isolation.
Motivation
In Malaysia, dementia awareness and support remain limited, especially in underserved communities. Peny aims to bridge this gap through arts-based programs that promote brain health, reduce stigma, and foster intergenerational connection and care.
Education & Experience
Peny, born in Penang, Malaysia, earned her BA (Hons) in Musical Theatre from LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore. She is an experimental vocalist, vocal coach, and founder of a social enterprise , ArtsProud, and also a cross-disciplinary collective, with experience in community-based arts for brain health and social impact.
