Words of Strength

Solution-oriented, Communicator and Team Player

Vision

She emphasizes the need to educate the public on dementia risk factors and to train primary healthcare providers in early detection. Coupled with interdisciplinary global collaborations, these efforts can help address inequities and improve patient management.

Strategy

In the READD-ADSP project, Agbor evaluates and educates participants on dementia, particularly Alzheimer’s disease, while also assessing primary healthcare providers’ knowledge to inform targeted educational programs.

Impact

She brings skills in leadership, communication, and educational methodologies to empower communities and healthcare providers on brain health. She sees this platform as an opportunity for global networking and to secure funding for impactful projects through grant writing.

Motivation

In low- and middle-income countries such as Cameroon, dementia is often underdiagnosed or diagnosed late due to misconceptions—such as beliefs in witchcraft or assumptions that symptoms are part of normal aging—and stigma. Increasing dementia literacy among both the public and primary healthcare providers can significantly improve timely diagnosis and care.

Education & Experience

Agbor Epse Ebot completed her medical training at the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences of the University of Yaoundé I, Cameroon. She now serves at the Neurology Unit of the Yaoundé Central Hospital and at the Brain Research Africa Initiative (BRAIN), where she contributes to research projects and community services aimed at advancing brain health in Cameroon, across Africa—particularly in French-speaking regions—and globally.
