Interests
Godwin Ogbole, MBBS, MSc, MD
Radiologist
I aim to create low-cost, intelligent MRI protocols for early dementia detection in Nigeria, strengthening research capacity and understanding dementia progression in African populations.
Current Work
Godwin is a Nigerian radiology researcher focused on developing intelligent, adaptable, and patient-centred low-cost imaging solutions to reduce the burden of stroke and dementia across Africa through innovative and sustainable imaging technologies.
Personal Hero
Benjamin Ogbole (My Father), an innovative and creative thinker
Words of Strength
Work smart, Live smart, Provide smart solutions
Vision
He believes we must develop and globally deploy intelligent, adaptable, patient-centred, low-cost imaging solutions, leverage innovative technologies, and encourage targeted mentorship to build multidisciplinary neuroscience capacity and advance brain health.
Strategy
Godwin is training a multidisciplinary African cohort of MRI scientists in neuroimaging and collaborating with the African Dementia Consortium to build research capacity and implement interventions that enhance brain health and reduce the burden of dementia.
Impact
Godwin aims to create and validate low-cost, intelligent MRI protocols for early dementia detection and management in Nigeria, strengthening local research capacity and deepening understanding of dementia progression in African populations.
Motivation
In Nigeria, dementia remains poorly understood, misdiagnosed, and stigmatized. The lack of validated imaging and assessment tools leads to undifferentiated cases, hindering tailored management—a gap that underscores the need for low-cost neuroimaging.
Education & Experience
Godwin Ogbole is Professor of Radiology at the University of Ibadan. He holds master's degrees in epidemiology, clinical investigation, and radiation physics. His research work aims to develop low-field MRI neuroimaging tools for stroke and dementia in resource-limited African settings.
