To reduce the scale and impact of dementia we need to increase public awareness about risk factors, fight stigma and strive towards dementia-friendly and dementia-ready communities.
Jayashree's work involves providing services for people living with dementia and mental health conditions. She has also been raising awareness about dementia and early detection which is essential to help families prepare for the caring journey.
As an Atlantic Fellow, Jayashree aims to strengthen health systems in India by developing contextually informed and culturally acceptable models of care for adults living with brain health conditions and their families.
Detection and treatment gaps for dementia are estimated to be as high as 90% in India. Since most people do not receive any kind of professional help, there is a huge need to build systems for early detection and to support family caregivers.
Jayashree holds an MPhil and PhD in Clinical Psychology from the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences, India. She has worked with children and adults in clinical and research settings before taking an entrepreneurial journey as Co-Founder of Samvedna Senior Care to develop services for mental health issues and people living with dementia.
