Current Work

Kirti is a neurologist who aims to make brain health practical and relevant. Through her work, she promotes an understanding of traditional and cultural practices which promote brain health.

Vision

To reduce dementia risk, Kirti believes we need to develop a strategy that focuses on both the resources required and the resources available within communities.

Strategy

Kirti is increasing public awareness on brain health, including increasing awareness on the value of the resources we have within our communities and country to do this.

Impact

Kirti has a better understanding of global health and the opportunities and challenges within this field because of her fellowship journey. Models of health established in high income countries were developed with an understanding of resources available in those areas and are not practical globally.

Motivation

The incidence of dementia is expected to increase in South Africa. Focusing on risk prevention strategies has the potential to significantly reduce this anticipated increase.

Education & Experience

Dr. Kirti Ranchod is a neurologist, based in Johannesburg, South Africa. She graduated with a degree in medicine from the University of Witwatersrand and obtained her specialist neurology qualification from the Colleges Of Medicine SA. Her professional focus is on memory and on brain health.Interests include the role of traditional practices in promoting health, neuroaesthetics, and understanding the different perceptions of memory.
