Interests
Mariano Nicolás Diaz Rivera, PhD, BS
Psychologist & Cognitive Neuroscientist
Advancing brain health requires fine-grained data to reveal reliable neural markers and guide interventions tailored to each cultural and clinical context.
Current Work
Mariano is a cognitive neuroscientist studying semantic processing in neurodegenerative diseases and epilepsy, using invasive and scalp EEG to explore neural signatures linking language to motor, emotional, and inhibitory networks across distributed brain systems.
Personal Hero
Public education
Words of Strength
Collaborative leadership and development mindset
Vision
He emphasizes the importance of encouraging global efforts to collectively identify brain mechanisms—from fine-grained to scalable levels—and to develop regionally relevant interventions aligned with the cultural and affective realities of each context.
Strategy
Mariano uses multiscale electroencephalography, from invasive to scalp methods, to study the spatiotemporal dynamics of cognitive and emotional processes in neurological conditions, aiming to identify mechanisms linked to early brain health markers.
Impact
As an Atlantic Fellow, he aims to build a collaborative multicenter platform to develop and validate brain health indices linked to cognition, creating scalable tools to inform research, care strategies, and policy across diverse contexts.
Motivation
In Argentina and the surrounding region, advancing brain health requires comprehensive, fine-grained data to identify reliable neural markers that deepen understanding of brain mechanisms and guide context-sensitive interventions in neurological conditions.
Education & Experience
Mariano Díaz Rivera completed his Ph.D. in Neuroscience at the National University of Córdoba, conducting his research at the Cognitive Neuroscience Center (CNC), affiliated with Universidad de San Andrés in Argentina. There, he established himself as co-leader of the intracranial and scalp electroencephalography departments. His work focuses on identifying neural dynamics of cognition and emotion in neurological conditions.
