Current Work

Tuan Anh is a leading dementia researcher focused on health equity and culturally tailored interventions, particularly for  low- and middle-income countries and culturally and linguistically diverse populations. He's led three international grants, published 100+ papers, and secured $19M in funding.

Vision

Tuan Anh believes we must promote prevention across the life course, address inequities, invest in culturally inclusive care, support carers, and strengthen collaboration among researchers, policymakers, communities, and people with lived experience.

Strategy

The APP1154644 grant developed Vietnam's national dementia plan; R01AG064688, APP2001548, MRF2042782, MRF2008065 culturally tailored carer interventions in Asia Pacific; and MRF2032836, MRF2023269 culturally tailored dementia preventions in Australia.

Impact

As an Atlantic Fellow, Tuan Anh aims to establish a Global Brain Health Insitute hub in the Asia Pacific to build critical mass and strengthen dementia research capacity in development and implementation of culturally tailored dementia interventions across the region.

Motivation

Leveraging digital technology, a scalable, cost-effective solution, to improve access and deliver culturally tailored dementia care across the Asia Pacific, where services are often limited and lack cultural relevance for diverse populations.

Education & Experience

Tuan Anh completed his Bachelor and Master of Pharmacy at Hanoi University of Pharmacy, Vietnam, and earned his PhD in Public Health and Community Medicine from the University of New South Wales, Australia. He undertook a postdoctoral fellowship at the Quality Use of Medicines and Pharmacy Research Centre, University of South Australia, before becoming a Lecturer in Healthcare Management at the Flinders University School of Medicine. Following the award of his NHMRC-ARC Dementia Research Development Fellowship, he returned to the University of South Australia. In 2021, he joined the National Ageing Research Institute and Swinburne University of Technology as an Associate Professor. In 2025, he was promoted to full Professor at Swinburne University of Technology and currently serves as Vice President, Health Science Portfolio, on the Board of Directors of the Vietnam–Australia Scholars & Experts Association (VASEA), as well as Programs Chair of the Health Policy PIA Executive Committee within the International Society to Advance Alzheimer’s Research and Treatment (ISTAART).
