Overview
Dementia affects over 50 million people globally. Misunderstandings and stigma prevent early diagnosis and quality care. The Memories Unleashed campaign uses music and the performing arts to raise awareness, challenge stigma, and foster understanding of dementia.
Project Details
This campaign merges art and science to educate the public about dementia’s impact and the role of music in memory retention. The initiative features a recording album and a multi-city concert series led by Elijah Rock, performing songs from the Great American Songbook (1920s–1940s) to evoke nostalgia and stimulate cognitive function. Scientific studies suggest that nostalgic music activates brain areas linked to memory, making it a powerful tool in dementia awareness. The project will also include interactive talkbacks, radio promotions, and educational outreach materials explaining the cognitive benefits of music. Additionally, the campaign will support ongoing research into music-based dementia interventions. By integrating performing arts with scientific outreach, Memories Unleashed aims to reduce stigma, inspire conversation, and promote greater understanding of dementia in diverse communities. The campaign’s findings and impact will be shared with researchers, healthcare professionals, and policymakers to support further dementia awareness efforts.
