Vision
John-Paul believes we must invest in research and policies which promote our understanding of dementia, and the discovery and implementation of contextualized and accessible preventative and therapeutic interventions.
Strategy
John-Paul is investigating the relationship between delirium (acute confusion which is common among hospitalized older adults) and dementia in sub-Saharan Africa. He also leads a multidisciplinary memory clinic in Kumasi-Ghana.
Impact
John-Paul aims to strengthen his research skills and network and gain adaptable insights and experience in long-term care for older adults with Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD) and related disabilities. He hopes to help develop comprehensive ADRD care and research in Ghana.
Motivation
Ghana does not have a dementia plan and there is limited research which highlights the burden of dementia and foregrounds the voices of people with ADRD and their care partners. John-Paul hopes to improve dementia care practice and research in Ghana.
Education & Experience
John-Paul trained as a medical doctor at the School of Medical Sciences at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (SMS-KNUST) and completed his residency training in Psychiatry at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, obtaining a Fellowship with the West African College of Physicians.
