Josefina is a neuroscientist focused on brain health, aging, and dementia, combining neuroimaging, computational modeling, and public engagement to reduce global brain health disparities and promote cognitive well-being across the lifespan.

Vision

Josefina believes that we need to unite science, policy, and community action to promote brain health across the lifespan, addressing social and economic inequities to prevent dementia and support healthier, more resilient societies.

Strategy

Josefina is leading research and public awareness initiatives on brain health and aging in Latin America, combining neuroimaging, computational modeling, and community engagement to reduce disparities and promote early prevention of dementia.

Impact

As an Atlantic Fellow, Josefina aims to co-develop innovative, community-based strategies and policies that empower the Global South to prevent dementia and prioritize brain health as a pillar of sustainable development.

Motivation

In Latin America, dementia is rising amid deep social inequities and limited awareness. Josefina works to bridge this gap by integrating science, policy, and community action to promote brain health and prevent cognitive decline across the lifespan.

Education & Experience

Josefina earned her degree in Speech Therapy (Chile) and master's degrees in Neuropsychology (Spain) and Cognitive Sciences (Spain). She completed a PhD in Computational Neuroscience (Spain) and is now an Assistant Professor at the BrainLat Institute, Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez (Chile).
