Neurologist

Knowledge and diagnostic technology should not be limited to a select group of experts — we need to educate the public and health care providers at all levels to use these tools appropriately to address the growing burden of dementia.

Current Work

Poosanu is a neurologist at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital and an Assistant Professor at Chulalongkorn University. His research focuses on prion diseases and neurodegenerative biomarkers, aiming to advance the diagnosis and understanding of brain disorders.

Vision

Poosanu believes that knowledge and diagnostic technology should not be limited to a select group of experts. He emphasizes the importance of educating the public and health care providers at all levels to understand and use these tools appropriately in order to address the growing burden of dementia.

Strategy

Poosanu has been providing consultations and specialized testing for prion disease across Thailand through his surveillance initiatives. He also advocates to include Alzheimer's blood tests in the national universal health coverage.

Impact

As an Atlantic Fellow, Poosanu aims find solutions that will accelerate the access to advanced diagnostic tools which detect dementing illnesses at their earliest stages, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.

Motivation

Thailand and other low- and middle-income countries face a growing dementia burden due to rapid population aging. Accessible diagnostic tools are crucial to provide various degree of certainty, actionability and guides to mitigate the rising impact.

Education & Experience

Poosanu Thanapornsangsuth completed his medical degree and neurology residency at Chulalongkorn University, Thailand. He currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Neurology at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, The Thai Red Cross Society.
