Vision

To reduce the scale and impact of dementia, Alex believes we need to allow more multidisciplinary partnerships between the arts and science.

Strategy

Alex is a photographer, documenting older Peruvians living in the country’s coast, mountain and jungle, with the aim of creating the first traveling, interdisciplinary exhibition of “aging in Peru” with the goal of generating social awareness of challenges surrounding aging.

Impact

Alex has had the opportunity to learn how social and environmental factors influence the lives of healthy and cognitively impaired older adults. He is interested in using photography to capture the key social and environmental forces that influence older adults.

Motivation

The lack of access to medical care, exposure to violence and corruption, discrimination, and many other socioeconomic and demographic factors influence the aging trajectories of Peruvians. Despite these challenges, the majority of older Peruvians are active in their communities.
