Vision

To reduce the scale and impact of dementia, we as a society need not only to invest in medical research and professional training, but also in building social awareness and safe environments for people living with dementia.

Strategy

In 2017, Lucía co-founded the Argentinian Initiative for the Study of Down Syndrome and Alzheimer´s Disease. This is a research study, but it also involves community outreach activities, specifically public lectures to raise awareness.

Impact

Lucía hopes to make major contributions in the area of dementia research, prevention and care in the specific population of aging adults with Down Syndrome, who are at very high risk of developing Alzheimer´s disease.

Motivation

Lucía aims to bridge the gap between persons living with dementia from the general population and adults with Down Syndrome living with Alzheimer´s disease in terms of dementia prevention, care and treatment.

Education & Experience

Lucía received her medical degree from the Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina. She then did her residency training in Neurology at Fleni, and afterwards completed a fellowship in Cognitive Neurology at Fleni´s Memory Clinic. Since 2017, she co-founded Iniciativa Argentina para el estudio del Síndrome de Down y la enfermedad de Alzheimer [IASDA] (Argentinian Initiative for the Study of Down Syndrome and Alzheimer´s Disease), which is an observational research study of aging adults with Down Syndrome.
