Overview
Caring for individuals with dementia presents unique challenges, particularly when managing neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS) such as agitation, anxiety, and hallucinations. Traditional caregiver training programs often rely on text-based resources, which can be difficult to apply in real-life situations. The Navigate Project introduces an innovative approach by using dramatization-based training to enhance caregiver knowledge and skills.
Project Details
This project will test the effectiveness of a dramatization-based intervention compared to conventional text-based caregiver training. We will recruit 100 dementia caregivers and divide them into two groups: one receiving interactive theater-based training and the other receiving traditional informational booklets. In the theater-based intervention, professional actors will perform scripted scenarios depicting common dementia-related behavioral challenges and effective responses. The performances will be staged in locations with high dementia prevalence to maximize accessibility. Caregivers’ knowledge and skills will be measured before and after the intervention using validated surveys. By comparing outcomes across both groups, we will determine whether dramatization-based education leads to better retention of information and improved caregiving practices. If successful, this model could be expanded to train caregivers across Turkey, enhancing dementia care nationwide.
